Q & A with Scorpiopathic
By Peyton Slamming
A rising star in the jammer position for both the Third Alarm and the Warning Belles, this “Scorpio” (yes, that’s really her astrological sign) has become a player opposing teams can only hope to contain. Now is the perfect time to get to know her as her star power has recently landed her a spot on the twenty person Tornado Sirens charter. Naptown’s Peyton Slamming caught up with Scorpio for a chat recently!
Q: What is your name and where did you come from?
A: My derby name is Scorpiopathic! It’s a combination of my astrological sign – scorpio, and my favorite personality disorder – the sociopath. Scorpios are thought to be pretty intense people and sociopaths are known to be manipulative. So, I aspire to bring both those traits to my playing personality.
Q: What attracted you to the sport of roller derby?
A: Initially I didn’t understand what derby was until I was watching my first bout. At some point, it became love at first sight when I realized it was an odd combination of two sports I already loved – roller skating and martial arts. I just had to try it!
Q: What has been your favorite derby moment so far?
A: My favorite derby moment so far has been skating with Naptown’s Third Alarm at a tournament in Bloomington, Indiana. I had never been in a tournament before and the roller coaster of winning several close games in a day before taking away a well-deserved second place was amazing (The B-Cup Tournament this past February)!
Q: What do you do to unwind after practice?
A: My post-practice ritual usually involves a glass of chocolate milk and falling asleep on the couch. It is wonderful every time!
Q: Name a quirky fact fans might not know about you!
A: I have a clone! My twin sister, who also plays roller derby, can sometimes be found at bouts. This often causes mass confusion. (Editor’s Note: Check out the Gem City Rollergirls and “Ninja Fox…” she looks very familiar)
