Q & A with Wham Bam
She’s already a sensation at just 21 years of age and she’s stolen the hearts of Naptown fans everywhere. She is the Warning Belles’ Wham Bam! Our Peyton Slamming caught up to one of the busiest ladies in Indianapolis.
Q: Who are you and where do you come from?
A: I’m Wham Bam and I’m from Noblesville!
Q: You tried out a couple times for Naptown. What motivated you and what keeps your motivation up?
A: I started out with Indianapolis Junior Roller Derby and my coaches came from Naptown. I had only ever been to Naptown bouts and I was just amazed by the Sirens. I knew I wanted to play derby and be a part of Naptown and when I didn’t make the recruitment workshop the first time, I think it literally broke my heart. I never wanted to feel like that again. So, I put everything I had into becoming a better skater and learning more strategy (I love strategy). There are many things that keep me motivated these days. Hearing your coach tell you that she is proud of you is priceless. I don’t ever want to be stuck in one spot. I want to make it to the top and play home games and go to Champs as a Tornado Siren!
Q: Favorite derby moment so far?
A: Meeting Jackie Daniels (of the Windy City Rollers) is considered a derby moment, right?!
Q: What do you to unwind off-skates?
A: I don’t really get to unwind, but I’m okay with that. I would rather be on my skates than in my shoes!
Q: Tell the fans one odd or fun fact about you they might not know.
A: I’m oddly obsessed with giraffes!
