Ima Hurchu

Birthday: May 15
Height: 5’ 5”
Hometown: Lenexa, Kansas
What position(s) do you play? Pivot and blocker
Signature move/trademark: My hits

What was your first car?
Dodge Daytona ES

What do you do for a living?
Public service

What are the names of your pets, and what are they?
Maverick and Cody, Siberian Huskies; ET, a rescue cat

What do you like to do outside of derby?
All sports, doing anything outdoors, and spending quality time with friends. I’m also an adrenaline junkie: I’ve had five motorcycles to date, and I love skydiving.

Were you a troublemaker as a kid?
Yes, I was also big into skate boarding and break-dancing.

As an adult?
Of course

What/who inspires you?
The Underdog—those with less talent but tons of heart.

What is the meaning behind your derby name?
I had a hard time picking a name. I like contact sports, which was one of my draws to derby. My name emphasizes that I play hard.

What advice would you give to anyone looking to make it in the real world?
Don’t ever give up, and make sure you are your biggest fan. Street smarts will get you a lot further than book smarts, so never sell yourself short.

What is your favorite inspirational quote?
I have two. For life: “Learn as if you were to live forever; live as if you were to die tomorrow.”
For sports: “You don’t have to have the lead if you have the heart to come from behind.”

What is your favorite sports movie?
Invisible and Miracle

What kind of wheels do you skate on?
Always changing because I wear them down on a regular basis. Radars, G-Rods, Pushers, etc.

Tailbone protector or padded shorts?
Tailbone protector

What advice would you give to someone looking to enter the world of derby?
It takes passion, dedication, hard work, and lots of patience. It doesn’t hurt to have a high pain tolerance as well.

What would surprise people the most to know about you?
I love Barry Manilow.
