Shadi Layne

Birthday: February 7th
Height: 5’ 5”
Hometown: Indianapolis
Position: Jammer, blocker, and will throw on the pivot cap every now and then, when needed.
Signature move/trademark: Love to throw up the rocker horns towards the fan club and I LOVE to wave my panties in the air (jammer panty that is). And when I call the jam, none of these little taps to the hips. I call it off big. I want the refs and fans to know I’m done!
Injuries: Fractured tailbone, sprained ankle, sprained knee

What was your first car?
’94 Chevy Cavalier

What do you do for a living?
You know the QC stickers in your T’s and panties? I am the one responsible for those. Just kidding. I do Quality Assurance for a National publication.

What are the names of your pets, and what are they?
Whoa, pit bull

What do you like to do outside of derby?
I play softball and love to spend time with my kiddos and shop. I also love to jam skate.

Were you a troublemaker as a kid?
Not at all, but I was a certified rink rat.

As an adult?
Only on the track!

What / who inspires you?
My kids. I have had a tough couple of years, and they are what keep me going!

What is the meaning behind your derby name?
Well, the thinking behind it was that I was going to be stingy and not let anyone around me (or my path). So I was like shady lane!

What advice would you give to anyone looking to make it in the real world?
No matter how hard life knocks you down, get back up and dust yourself off and hit life harder than you did before.

What is your favorite inspirational quote?
“It ain’t about how hard you can hit. It’s about how hard you can GET hit and keep moving forward. It’s about how much you can take and still keep moving forward! That’s how winning is done!” — Rocky Balboa

What is your favorite sports movie?
A League of Their Own

What kind of wheels do you skate on?
Hyper Shamans or Cannibals

Tailbone protector or padded shorts?
Tailbone protector

What advice would you give to someone looking to enter the world of derby?
Don’t be afraid to try it. You’ll be surprised at what you can do! And when you hit that pack the first time, it’s natural to be scared. Hit it headfirst and with all of your strength and you will be just fine.

Anyone who has ever spent time in the Midwest is familiar with the term “Hoosier Hospitality.” However, on April 27th, we will be opting for something slightly more aggressive!
