Last fall, Cherry-oto-Fire rolled in from the north and became an instant sensation and fan favorite among the Naptown faithful. She helped captain the Tornado Sirens to a third place finish in the D2 playoffs this past season and is ready to kick off the league’s 10th anniversary in style!
1. Where did you grow up?
I am Canadian and grew up in several different places in Alberta and British Columbia.
2. Why roller derby?
Roller derby is by far the best team sport I have ever played. You become part of a family and community that is loving and strong. Plus, I had never done anything on roller skates before! So, it was and still is a challenge. I like a good challenge!
3. When not on-skates, you can be found…
Hmm, I can be found chasing my toddler around, playing outside, working out at the gym, studying, hanging out with my husband, playing guitar, serving the community and my church, and other normal life stuff–I guess I can be found doing everything but sitting still!
4. What do you miss most about Canada?
Big mountain snowboarding, snowshoeing, pick up shinny at the outdoor ice rinks, Tim Horton’s, and my friends and family!
5. Fun facts the fans might not know about you.
Just one?! Okay–growing up I really wanted to become an actor! I chose my high school for its theatre program and teacher. I received the Top Student award in Dramatic Arts 4 years in a row. I acted in, wrote, and directed plays–it was challenging and thrilling. After high school, I pursued a BSc. in Nutrition and am now studying to become a certified personal trainer. Perhaps one day I’ll get the chance to star in a super cool movie!
